Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar white, brown, or mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg optional
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Optional: chopped walnuts raisins, chocolate chips, or dried cranberries

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together applesauce, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Gradually combine dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Fold in optional add-ins if desired.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 30–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix to keep the cake soft and tender.
  • Use unsweetened applesauce for better control of sweetness.
  • Store at room temperature for 2–3 days or refrigerate up to 1 week.
