Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped almonds or pecans optional

Instructions
 

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and prepare all ingredients.
  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add sugar and salt, stirring constantly.
  • Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture turns deep golden brown (about 10–15 minutes).
  • When it reaches about 300°F (hard crack stage), remove from heat.
  • Carefully stir in vanilla extract.
  • Immediately pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let sit for 2–3 minutes until melted.
  • Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts and optional sea salt on top.
  • Let cool completely (1–2 hours), then break into pieces.

Notes

  • Stir constantly to prevent burning or separation.
  • Use a candy thermometer for best accuracy (hard crack stage ~300°F).
  • Avoid high humidity, which can affect texture.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
  • Freeze for up to 2 months if needed.
