Ingredients

  • Main Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds carrots peeled and sliced into ¼-inch rounds (or baby carrots)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Glaze:
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional, for extra shine
  • Other:
  • ½ cup water for simmering
  • Fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the Carrots
  • Peel and slice carrots evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
  • If using large carrots, cut thicker ends lengthwise.
  • Simmer
  • Place carrots in a large skillet or saucepan.
  • Add ½ cup water.
  • Cover and cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until carrots begin to soften.
  • Drain any excess water.
  • Make the Glaze
  • Add butter to the pan and let it melt.
  • Stir in brown sugar, salt, pepper, and cinnamon.
  • Cook uncovered for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens and coats the carrots.
  • Finish
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in honey if using.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

  • Slice carrots evenly to avoid uneven cooking.
  • Do not overcook; carrots should be fork-tender, not mushy.
  • Keep heat moderate to prevent the sugar from burning.
  • If glaze is too thin, cook a few minutes longer uncovered.
  • If glaze becomes too thick, add a small splash of water.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
