Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 package flour tortillas Soft and flexible for easy rolling.
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey) This will be your protein base.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Adds all the traditional taco spices.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend works well.

Optional Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup black beans For an extra protein kick.
  • 1/2 cup corn Adds sweetness and texture.
  • to taste diced onions and bell peppers For added flavor and crunch.
  • as needed cooking oil or cooking spray For frying or baking.

Instructions

Cooking the Meat

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook your ground beef or turkey until it's browned. Drain any excess fat, then mix in the taco seasoning. If you’re adding black beans or corn, toss them in now. Let it simmer for a few minutes to combine the flavors.

Preparing the Tortillas

  • Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spoon a few tablespoons of the cooked meat mixture onto the lower half, followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded cheese.

Rolling the Sticks

  • Carefully roll the tortilla up, starting from the end with the filling. Tightly secure the roll to prevent any filling from escaping.

Heating the Pan

  • In a skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Depending on your preference, you can choose to fry the sticks for a crispy texture or opt for baking in the oven for a healthier option.

Cooking the Sticks

  • Place the rolled sticks seam-side down in the skillet. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. For baking, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the sticks on a baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden.

Cooling and Serving

  • Once cooked, set the taco sticks aside for a moment to firm them up and make them easier to handle. Serve with salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.

Notes

For variations, try mixing different cheeses or adding fresh herbs. Avoid overstuffing and ensure proper sealing to prevent spills.
