Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 whole fresh pineapple Choose a ripe pineapple that is firm yet slightly yielding.
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted Can replace with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar Use light brown sugar for a milder flavor.
  • 1/4 cup dark rum Optional, but adds extra depth to the glaze.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Can be adjusted to taste.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances sweetness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by selecting a ripe pineapple, cut off the top and bottom, and slice away the tough outer skin. Cut the pineapple into thick wedges or rings.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, dark brown sugar, dark rum (if using), ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar is well incorporated.
  • Brush the pineapple slices generously with the glaze, ensuring thorough coating. Allow marinating for at least 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat, and if using a grill pan, ensure it’s well-oiled.

Grilling

  • Place the marinated pineapple on the grill. Grill each slice for 3-4 minutes on each side until grill marks appear and the fruit softens slightly.
  • Remove the pineapple from the grill and let cool slightly before serving.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve warm on its own, or pair with ice cream, yogurt, or as a topping for grilled meats.

Notes

It's best to choose a slightly firm pineapple to avoid mushiness when grilling. Try adding different spices to your glaze for unique flavors.
