Ingredients

For the Marinade and Steak

  • 1 lb flank steak (or ribeye for a richer flavor) Choose quality cuts for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean red chili paste) Can adjust to taste.
  • Black pepper to taste

For the Sandwich

  • 1 loaf crusty bread or baguette Choose bread that can hold up to the sandwich.
  • 1 cup cucumber slices (pickled, if desired)
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Sliced radishes (for crunch)
  • Fresh cilantro or green onions For garnish.
  • Optional: Sriracha or additional gochujang for added heat

Instructions

Marinating the Steak

  • In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, gochujang, and black pepper.
  • Place the flank steak in a resealable bag or dish, pouring the marinade over the meat. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, preferably a few hours or overnight for maximum flavor.

Cooking the Steak

  • Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until it’s cooked to your liking. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.

Preparing the Vegetables

  • Mix equal parts of vinegar and water with a sprinkle of sugar if pickling cucumbers. Let them sit for about 15 minutes.

Assembling the Sandwich

  • Cut the crusty bread or baguette open.
  • Layer the sliced steak, cucumber, shredded carrots, and radishes.
  • Top it off with fresh herbs like cilantro or green onions.

Adding Spice and Serving

  • Drizzle with Sriracha or more gochujang for an added kick.
  • Serve and enjoy your flavorful and unforgettable sandwich.

Notes

To enhance flavor, choose quality cuts of steak and allow the marinading time to fully develop the taste. Consider experimenting with variations like adding kimchi or using vegetarian alternatives to the meat.
