Ingredients

For the apple filling

  • 4-6 medium Apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji) Choose firm apples for best results.
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice To keep the apples from browning.
  • 1/2 cup Sugar A combination of brown and granulated sugar is suggested.
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon For added flavor and warmth.

For the crumble topping

  • 1 cup Whole Grain Oats Provides texture to the crumble.
  • 1/2 cup Flour All-purpose flour or gluten-free flour works.
  • 1/2 cup Sugar Granulated or brown sugar can be used.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Unsalted butter or coconut oil for dairy-free version.
  • 1/2 cup Nuts (Walnuts or Pecans) Optional for added crunch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss them in a bowl with lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon.

Making the Crumble

  • In another bowl, mix together oats, flour, sugar, and butter. Use your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Baking

  • Place the apple mixture into a baking dish, then sprinkle the crumble evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the apples are bubbling and the topping is golden brown.

Serving

  • Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Mix different apple varieties for a richer flavor. Experiment with add-ins like raisins or dried cranberries for texture. Always use firm apples to improve baking results.
