Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add melted butter, salt, and flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  • While the dough rises, mix chopped strawberries, sugar, and matcha powder in a bowl.
  • If using cream cheese, blend it into the mixture for a creamy consistency.

Shaping and Baking

  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Spread the strawberry-matcha filling evenly over the dough.
  • Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into equal pieces, approximately 1-inch thick.
  • Place the cut rolls into a greased baking dish, cover, and allow them to rise for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Glazing

  • While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and a little matcha until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are done, drizzle the glaze over the top and garnish with strawberries before serving.
