  • 1 medium cucumber, grated and drained Adds crunch and hydrates the sauce.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Infuses the dip with flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Lends richness to the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice Adds a splash of acidity.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential for seasoning.
  • Fresh dill or mint for garnish Optional, adds fragrance.

Preparation

  • Start by grating the cucumber and placing it in a bowl.
  • Use a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth to squeeze out excess moisture to ensure your tzatziki won’t be watery.

Mixing

  • In a large bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, and cucumber. Stir until well mixed.

Seasoning

  • Add the olive oil, vinegar or lemon juice, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Adjust flavors according to your liking, adding more garlic for punch or more lemon for brightness.

Finishing Touch

  • If using, chop fresh dill or mint and fold them into the mixture.
  • Let the tzatziki sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving to meld the flavors.

Notes

Homemade tzatziki can be stored in the refrigerator for up to five days in an airtight container. Stir before serving if it becomes watery.
